Does anyone know of some charitable grants people who make homes more accessible for wheelchairs?

The disabled facilities grant we tried for several yrs ago now (got approved but we would have to pay the first £30k!)

So we never did use them in the end- got some help through a professional union for stair lift etc

thanks

Jenni - what about The Rowans - or do they just help with funding for assistants?

Hi Jenni,
I thought that if you had a disability the local occupational therapy dept could provide these services,

they have offered to put in rails for my steps outside the house and I know someone with a young learning difficulty adult who has had walk in shower etc via them, also wheelchair ramps

I expect you have already been down this route though, there must be someone who can help,

Would your local council, where you made your DFG application be able to advise you Jenni? You've probably already checked out Directgov, but if not ......

Would you qualify for monies from the Independent Living Fund? Otherwise try the Charities Commission website? Can you think of any Charities associated with your work, or your husband's?

Good luck!

Have you tried your local authority's Social Services Dept? I rang them and they gave me help with quite a few aids. Not sure how much they would do for you, though. Just a thought.

Maybe your local Lions Club?
